Richard Watkin

Richard Watkin

Artist, Richard Watkin, works from his studio at the bottom of his garden in the Dorset countryside. He paints with acrylics in a bold graphical style and his work is influenced by vintage British Rail travel posters, as well as Art Deco typography.

One of Richard's earliest influences for his vintage inspired prints and posters came from being surrounded by the graphical imagery of the 50s and 60s toy merchandising whilst helping out at his father's toy shop in Taunton, Somerset.

He went on to study art at the Cambridge Institute and taught ceramics, painting, drawing and sculpture in schools in Essex, Hertfordshire, Suffolk, Wiltshire, Dorset and Poole. Retiring from teaching in 2011 he achieved his ambition of painting full time.

As well as being collected by art enthusiasts, Richard's paintings have featured in travel exchanges to promote tourism, local hospitals to brighten up wards and made into wallpaper to adorn offices.

Martock Gallery has been collaborating with Richard and is delighted to offer for sale these four iconic images of Somerset. We have the four original paintings, as well as framed and unframed prints for sale.
